The House of Representatives has thrown out the bill seeking for same
sex marriage.
The position of the House is in consonance with that of the Senate,
which threw out the same bill months ago.
The rejected bill was titled: "A bill for an Act to prohibit marriage
or civic union entered into between persons of same sex, solemnization
of same and for other matters related therewith."
Tuesday's debate on the issue was led by the House Leader, Hon.
Mulikat Akande-Adeola of the Peoples Democratic Party, who said the
culture of same sex union is alien to Nigerian cultures and morals and
thus has "no place in our society."
The Minority Leader, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila of the Action Congress of
Nigeria supported Akande-Adeola's position.
Majority of the lawmakers also backed this position.
