On November 8, the Governmentof Japan provided emergency relief goods
worth 52 million yen (tent, blanket, and water purifier) to the
Federal Republic of Nigeria, through the Japan International
Cooperation Agency in response to the request following serious damage
from the floods.
In the Federal Republic of Nigeria, heavy rain has caused the flood
damage since July, andit has been getting worse especially after
August.
UNOCHA reported that 363 people were dead, 18,200 people were injured,
approximately 2.16 million people were evacuated to the shelters, and
618,089 houses were destroyed.
The situation is not likely to be improved early.
In response to the request from the Government of the Federal Republic
of Nigeria, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency
assistance from a humanitarian point of view for the victims as well
as in light of friendly relations between Japan and theFederal
Republic of Nigeria.
