The Rivers State Governor, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, has confirmed the
purchase of another aircraft by the state government.
Amaechi said the brand new Bombardier jet cost the state government
$45.7 million.
Speaking on his behalf, the state Commissioner for Information, Ibim
Semenitari, said the aircraft was paid for about two years ago.
Semenitari said the main reason for the purchase was for safety purpose.
She said plans had been concluded to sell the old aircraft purchased
by the government of former Governor Peter Odili.
"It was paid for two years ago.
"The reason is for safety.
"The new aircraft is a much safer one."
The commissioner said the Rivers State House of Assembly was consulted
before the order for the purchase of the Bombardier Global 5000
(N565RS) was made.
The jet is bought from Bombardier in Canada for $45.7 million through
the Bank of Utah Trustee account.
